Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a marine survey quote in Norway?
Provide the exact harbour, island or yard, vessel details, construction, purpose and preferred date. Include winter or launch status, covers, mast position, lift access, sea trial and the practical road or ferry route.
Can one surveyor cover different Norwegian fjord regions?
Some surveyors travel, but fjords, ferries and long road distances can make travel material. Start with a regionally practical match, then check vessel material, assignment experience and report requirements.
Can a boat be surveyed during winter storage?
A condition inspection may be possible, but covers, freezing conditions, winterised systems, removed batteries and an unstepped mast can limit testing. Agree limitations and any later afloat stage in writing.
Can the report be issued in English?
English reporting may be available. Confirm the report language, technical terms, intended recipient, reliance and delivery deadline with the appointed surveyor.
Does professional membership guarantee report acceptance?
No. Membership, competence for the vessel and material, formal authority for a specific task and acceptance by an insurer, lender or other recipient are separate checks.
Who appoints the marine surveyor?
The client appoints the independent surveyor directly and agrees the scope, fee, timing, report use and terms. Norway Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.
