Survey types

One request, matched to the actual job

A pre-purchase inspection is not the same assignment as a tonnage measurement or commercial-code survey. We keep the scope clear from the beginning.

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Norwegian survey locations

Plan the survey around Norway’s long coast and distinct fjord regions

Norwegian survey work can involve ferries, island access, long road journeys and short seasonal launch windows. Give the precise marina, yard or winter-storage location and identify whether the vessel is afloat, ashore, covered or fully commissioned.

Oslofjord

Oslo · Drøbak · Fredrikstad · Moss · Tønsberg

Norway’s densest leisure-boat market. Confirm yard access, lift capacity, launch status and whether an Oslofjord sea trial is available.

Find a surveyor in this region

Sørlandet

Kristiansand · Arendal · Grimstad · Lillesand

A strong seasonal boating region with numerous smaller harbours. Precise berth, road access and winter-storage arrangements should be supplied.

Find a surveyor in this region

Western Norway

Stavanger · Bergen · Haugesund · Ålesund

Fjords, islands and ferry routes can make apparently nearby locations separate travel assignments. Confirm the practical access route before fixing attendance.

Find a surveyor in this region

Trøndelag

Trondheim · Hitra · Frøya · Namsos

Longer travel distances and dispersed yards require early confirmation of surveyor availability, haul-out and accommodation where necessary.

Find a surveyor in this region

Northern Norway

Bodø · Tromsø · Harstad · Lofoten

Remote access, weather, darkness and seasonal launch conditions can restrict inspection and sea trial. Define the achievable scope before appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for a marine survey quote in Norway?

Provide the exact harbour, island or yard, vessel details, construction, purpose and preferred date. Include winter or launch status, covers, mast position, lift access, sea trial and the practical road or ferry route.

Can one surveyor cover different Norwegian fjord regions?

Some surveyors travel, but fjords, ferries and long road distances can make travel material. Start with a regionally practical match, then check vessel material, assignment experience and report requirements.

Can a boat be surveyed during winter storage?

A condition inspection may be possible, but covers, freezing conditions, winterised systems, removed batteries and an unstepped mast can limit testing. Agree limitations and any later afloat stage in writing.

Can the report be issued in English?

English reporting may be available. Confirm the report language, technical terms, intended recipient, reliance and delivery deadline with the appointed surveyor.

Does professional membership guarantee report acceptance?

No. Membership, competence for the vessel and material, formal authority for a specific task and acceptance by an insurer, lender or other recipient are separate checks.

Who appoints the marine surveyor?

The client appoints the independent surveyor directly and agrees the scope, fee, timing, report use and terms. Norway Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.

Can you help with other specialist marine survey assignments?

Potential assignments include kjøpsbesiktigelse & condition surveys, winter storage & recommissioning, aluminium & steel inspections, engine diagnostics & oil analysis, rig & mast inspections, damage & grounding investigation, new-build & refit supervision, on-hire, off-hire & delivery surveys. Availability depends on the location, vessel and required specialist capability or formal appointment.
